Session Overview
Session 1: Finding and Pursuing Purpose – Philippians 3:7-16
The Apostle Paul found in the Gospel more than a life insurance policy or a quick escape from hell. He found a life in Christ which caused all other accomplishments to pale in comparison. He spent his life seeking to become all that Christ wanted him to be. Such a life is not just for Paul but for all who know Christ. His life is a personal challenge to every Christian to “press toward the mark” of a life of purpose in Christ.
Session 2: Vision that Will Stand the Test of Time – Jeremiah 35
In this vivid Old Testament illustration, God shows us that it is possible to pass a biblical vision of life to future generations. Found in the account of the Rechabites are practical principles for building and communicating a God-given vision. God is often pleased to bless the descendents of those who live out such a vision and is glorified when we live with the next generation in view. “That the generation to come might know…” Christ.
Session 3 & 4: Community Groups/Large Group Discussion
The small group time is an opportunity for each person to interact with what he or she has heard. Questions are designed to help each one think through the issues of purpose, vision, and Lordship and to see it is not just theory, but life. After working through the issues in our small groups, we assemble to discuss what we have learned and hear biblical answers to the questions.
Session 5: The Family that Seeks the Lord – Deuteronomy 6:1-9
This down to earth Old Testament passage describes a home lived under the lordship of Christ. It shows us that building a Christian home is about more than just having consistent family devotions but happens as we build a lifestyle of Christ-centeredness and keep Christ close to us in all we do. The principles that guide each member of a Christian family are given with practical application that will help each family seek the Lord.
Session 6: Vision4Living – Proverbs 29:18
A biblical vision is absolutely necessary for the future of a nation, a church, and especially a family. A trans-generational vision is strengthened, preserved, and brings joy in the same measure that it is built on God’s word. This passage shows us the dangerous path of visionless living, the glorious path of following a biblical vision, and what it takes to have and communicate it.
Two new sessions are in the works: ‘Your Belief System’ & ‘The Local Church & the Family’. We will be posting the overviews of those soon.
